Newbie’s Warlock Guide for Surviving in World of Warcraft

My WoW warlock guide attempts to get you headed down the right path when you’re starting out as a warlock. Warlocks are well known for their shadow magic and fire magic spells and especially for the ability to summon and control minions. They are adept necromancers that deal in misery and agony. Though warlocks can’t go head to head in up close fighting, they more than make up for that by casting high damage spells from a distance. A fair amount of a warlock’s spells make use of soul shards which must be collected from slain enemies. Warlocks are a breeze to level up in a hurry since they’re incredibly self sufficient when playing solo. In groups, warlocks are frequently the top DPS dealers.

Permissible races for warlocks are Undead, Orcs, Humans, Gnomes, and Blood Elves. Due to being a caster class, they are allowed only to don cloth armor. They can use only daggers, staves, swords and wands as weapons.

Warlocks are best known for their ability to summon and control a variety of demonic minions including Imps, Voidwalkers, Succubi, Felhunters, Infernals, Doomguards, and Felguards. Each of the various minions are useful, but you’ll need to measure the advantages of using each of them for the task at hand. Warlocks boast a wide variety of spells at their disposal including damage over time spells (DoT’s), direct damage spells, and some useful utility spells. Soul shards may be expended for conjuring various items and even for resurrecting your party members. Other talents include self healing with drain life, and crowd control (CC) with fear spells. Since warlocks are able to acquire mounts via quests, they save bucket loads of money that the other classes have to pay.

Affliction talents are meant to bolster the warlock’s curses, damage over time spells, and drains. This talent tree works great for raiding, boss killing, and farming. This spec is the best spec for leveling.

The Demonology talent tree is focused on making more powerful demon minions and enhancing your conjuration spells. The Demonology specialization is particularly good for player versus player and general survivability. It is also good when leveling, though it’s not nearly as efficient as the Affliction spec. You will be heavily reliant on your demon minions when using this spec.

The Destruction spec increases the direct damage output of both your fire and shadow group of magic. Your warlock will be able to do incredible amounts of damage, but the downside is that you will suffer lower survivability. The Destruction spec is best used much later in the game, because it is hard to live long enough to make use of it effectively at lower levels. Although you are able to do massive damage, there are a handful of downsides to this specialization that should be taken into account. You’ll require a bunch of soul shards, you will go through mana really quickly, and playing solo will be really hard. On the flip side, it can be a lot of fun.
