R4 DS Card And DSi XL Can Make A Full Blown Organizer

Whenever I get my hands on a new piece of hardware, the first thing I do is see what it can really do. Not just the features and functions that the manufacturer lists on the actual box of the product. It was no different when I first received my R4 DS Card. I swiftly hopped on the internet so that I could find out everything there was to know about nds homebrew games and homebrew gaming.

I had read about some really cool applications for the DS and DSi. The homebrew applications that really got my excited was a little gem called DS Organize.  You’ll need an R4 DS Card or an R4i for DSi in order to use this cool piece of software. This cool little piece of homebrew will turn your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi xl into your personal digital assistant - your hand held pda.

I really feel that this is one thing that could have - and definitely should have - been built into the DS or at the very least the new DSI console. It just seems totally natural to me to actually use the DS that I’m carrying around with me anyway, to serve and function like more of a multi purpose device. The DS is certainly powerful enough to run a full blown organizer. I mean, most 50 dollar cellular phones have this feature built in even if it’s not really high quality.

But DS Organize is anything but limited. Once you put it on to your R4 DS and load it up on the Nintendo DS, you’re greeted with numerous options. While DS Organize is no pocketPC, it does give you everything you would expect from a PDA - a note or scribble pad, calendar, day planner and a full address book and todo list too.

My absolute must have and most used function is the web browser that’s built in. Everyone is aware that the DS and the DSi both have Wifi built in - but there’s just no darn way to use it to get online. Thanks to DSOrganize and the trusty R4DS Card you’ll be online and checking out your favorite websites in no time flat. While the browser is limited in this version, there are promises from the developer to improve it. Since it’s the first version, the browser is sort of basic - but even at this stage of the game, it blows away what even commercial browsers can do.

DS organize is an amazing example of homebrew applications at work, given away for free to R4 DS owners
