WoW Secrets: Leatherworking Leveling Guide

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

When leveling a trade skill, there is a lot that needs to be done, especially when it comes to leatherworking.  Not only are leatherworkers able to make several types of leather armor, but they are able to make pieces that can be attached to pants.  These pieces provide some significant statistical bonuses.
You can acquire the materials needed for leatherworking in two different ways.  The first way is, obviously, through the auction house, but this method is very expensive and the materials you may need will not always be available to purchase.  If you’re looking for a more economical way of acquiring the materials, you’re going to need to take up the primary skill of skinning.  By becoming a skinner, you are gaining the opportunity to both fuel your needs as a leatherworking, and gain a valuable source of income from those who need leather.
What are some items that I can look forward to?
You will have the ability to make items in a variety of rarities.  The most common items are “greens,” but you will also have the ability to make a few epic “purples.”  In most cases, these epic items will be the best gear available before you begin raiding.
Lowering the prices can provide you with extra cash on the auction house due to the way people try to gouge out lower levels for cash by dramatically overpricing the lower items. There is also two expansions released, and few people concentrate on lower levels of equipment, which allows for this gouging to happen.
Don’t be like many other people and set your prices entirely too high.  What this will do is provide another smart producer to come in behind you and gather a loyal base of customers that are angry with your prices.
Benefits
While leatherworking is very profitable, it also provides you the ability to take part in a large portion of the crafting business.  Several different classes will rely on the skills of a leatherworker to provide them with the items they need.  Leatherworkers can gear several different classes, especially rogues and druids.
This skill is also important if your class fits within the limits of what you are able to make, allowing you to be much more self sufficient in acquiring the gear that is required of you for raiding and player versus player content.
The gear you will be able to craft will always have buyers in the auction house and you won’t have a problem selling it through the trade channel as well.  This doesn’t give you the right to charge too much, though.  The best way to sell consistently is to gather a loyal base of customers that are impressed with your prices.
You can also use skinning as a way of making the whole thing more attractive. Instead of buying the materials, you can basically start at the lower level then continue progressively to animals and creatures of higher levels as you progress to ensure that you become both 450 in skinning and in leather working!
