Priest Leveling Guide For Newbies

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Priests are the archetypal healers of any group, although those who have delved into the Shadow build makes for very excellent damage dealers well. But it is often in large groups that the Priests prove their worth. Priests also do well in soloing since they are capable of leveling really fast. If you’re a priest and want to know how to get done with the beginning levels of the game really fast, this is the Priest leveling guide for you.

{Who are the Priests}?
The Priests, despite them not being hybrids, can fill a few roles. They do good tanking although with their cloth armor, they are not at par with other tanking classes and impressive DPS, if you’re following the Shadow talent tree. If you’re a Priest seeking to go deep into the Holy Priest tree, you will become very capable of casting pretty solid multiple target healing spells. Alternatively, you also have at your disposal the best single target heals via the Discipline Priest talent tree.

{Early Leveling}
All Priests begin in their starting two with two abilities – Smite, a ranged attack, and Lesser Heal, a healing spell. As you progress through the first three levels, you will earn money which you could use to buy your first buff, the Power Word: Fortitude, which you may use to make some friendly gestures with other players. You’re on your route to becoming quite a popular character.

In the next two levels, you will be able to learn how to use your first DoT spell, the Shadow Word: Pain. You will have enough time to practice using this newly-acquired spell alongside those that you already have, particularly with Smite. Then at levels six and seven, you will gain access to a new spell – the Power Word: Shield.

At the next two levels, levels eight to nine, you will get a new DoT spell called the Renew and spell for aggro threat reduction, called the Fade. Fade will come in very handy once you start raiding with parties as this could help a ton with aggro reduction. This is especially handy against a Priest from an enemy group. At level ten, you will have your first powerful ranged attack spell called the Mind Blast and your first resurrection spell, called Resurrection.

{From Level Ten Onwards}
You will accrue your first talent point at level ten.
This point, you could use instantly to enhance a specific talent from your talent tree or choose to delay use until you have decided on what build to roll your Priest.

You actually have 3 different choices of talent trees – Shadow, Disciple, and Holy. Each of these dishes out specific talents and abilities which are very useful for creating a specialized character.

If you want to be a pilot healer, a very sought-after character in any group – you can choose the path of the Holy Priest. This tree houses nearly all the best and most powerful buffs, debuffs, and healing spells in the game. If you’re seeking to create a Priest that has very high DPS, you can go deep into the Shadow talent tree. For the best single target healing in WoW, you can go down the road of the Disciple tree.

{Final Words and Recommendations}
The choice of tree is really up to you. Although this Priest leveling guide suggests that for you to have faster leveling, you might want to first try rolling a Shadow Priest, which is by far the easiest way to get to the level cap.
