Mage – The Elements of Magic

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Mages are casting damage dealers that use mana to cast their spells. Mages have different types of spells and abilities they use to deal as much possible damage, like Arcane missiles, Frost Bolt and Fire Bolt.

If you have decided that this class is right for you, the choice of available races will fall on either: Human, Gnome or Draenei race for the Alliance players and Undead, Troll or Blood Elf race for the Horde players. A Mage will always feel very welcome in any team, group or raid. He has a few buffs he can cast and the most popular one is definitely the Arcane Brilliance popularly called the Intelect Buff. The Intellect buff is not the only reason why Mages are popular. Click here to watch the video Mage Guide

A mage is also famous for his “consumables”, meaning he can make food & water for his own purposes and for other players as well. These special “consumables” a Mage can make will restore one’s hp and mana and are always a need. Another thing mages have is the ability to Polymorph Beasts and Humanoids which is why they are also a need in fights with more than one mob. Even though, today, the fights in WoW have become much easier (tank ‘n spank), Crowd Control is still nice and useful.

Mages buffs, spells that can create and transform are all nice but they don’t make him the best player in the game and it is that his damage spells and abilities make him a great damage dealer. His spells are based on Arcane, Fire and Frost damage. Spells like Blizzard, Flame Strike, Arcane Explosion, Cone of Cold and other damaging spells do damage on multiple mobs and can place a Mage on top of the damage meters. A Mage also has AoE spells like Blizzard, Arcane Explosion, Flame Strike, Cone of Cold, etc. which deal a lot of damage to multiple targets. Great thing about Arcane is that the tree provides the Mage with quite a bit of mana efficient talents, several devastating spells and more. Before there were hardly any Mages with an Arcane spec and this spec was usually combined with either Frost or Fire, but nowadays it is a great spec for both PvP and PvE Mages. Today, Arcane is used for in PvP as well as in PvE and it offers some useful talents that have mana efficiency and improved damage output. If you want the pure damage then the Fire talent tree is perfect for you. The Fire build gives Mages a few very strong damaging spells and a critical strike rating increase, so if you are looking for pure, mostly single target damage, Fire is definitely the perfect choice for your Mage.

If you prefer PvP to PvE, then you should become a Frost mage. The Frost talent build has many AoE spells in store for you, as well as the Crowd Control spells and even a protective shield!. This. With Frost, you will be able to stun players, summon a special Water Elemental to assist you in a fight which all is quite useful for PvP and it can prove to be fun in PvE as well. All three talent builds could be interesting and fun and what’s more important, you can combine them all as you like or play them separately!.

It may take some time until you find the best talents build suitable for your game play but when you do, you will definitely become one of the best damage dealers in game. If you would like more information on WoW guides check out one of our popular guides here: Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide Review
